My Quick Tips for Social Media
This is for my stylist friends out there! We all know that social media is changing constantly, and honestly, it’s hard to keep up! Luckily, I have some quick tips for you that will make social media feel manageable.
Update Your Bio
Your Instagram bio is so much more important than you may think! It should say where you’re located front and center. When your clients are tagging you and sharing your work, the first thing potential new clients want to see is, “Is she near me?” Make it easy for them to see where you’re located AND what you specialize in! Are you a blonde master? Do you only do hair extensions? Make that a key component of your bio!
Another tip? Show what you LOVE doing! If you really don’t like blonde balayage or men’s cut, don’t show those on social media! Instead, focus on posting high quality photos of the work you want to do more of.
Videos and Reels
You may have heard in the past few months that Instagram is heavily prioritizing Reels, meaning they’re pushing that video content out to more and more viewers. I think we all know why! Reels and TikToks are so much fun to watch. They’re addictive, entertaining, and oftentimes super informative. I bet you can name a few life hacks and tips you’ve learned from watching Reels!
In my experience, if you’re not making and sharing Reels, you’re not growing on Instagram. I’ve had Reels that were watched over 2,000 times. Now that’s not such a big deal compared to some content creators, but it’s a huge deal for stylists like us! I’m creating for a niche market: people who are looking for hair extensions! Plus, since I’ve started creating Reels, I’ve seen my followers and engagement grow more and more!
Hashtags
Hashtags are still important, especially when you post your Reels and TikToks! Using hashtags like #hairextensionstransformation and #coloradohairextensions has increased my views and brought me more followers! And of course, using hashtags like #foryoupage and #fyp on TikTok will help your content show up while people are scrolling!
Stay Engaged
You may be wondering, “How can I stay on top of all of these new trends and platforms?” It’s simple: stay engaged with social media! Spend about 30 minutes a day exploring Reels and the the Explore page on Instagram! See what other stylists are posting and follow hashtags that have to do with your specialty. The more you post and engage, the more you’ll see changes as they happen and be able to keep up!
Take Great Photos!
Finally, and probably most importantly, photograph your work! Remember, the best camera is the one you have, whether that’s an iPhone (their cameras are kind of awesome, let’s be real!) or a DSLR! You can check out my tips for taking great hair photos HERE!
