Harper Ellis Masterclass: where do I even start?? I’m back home in Denver now, and my heart is SO FULL! Not only was this an incredible educational event for hair extensions specialists, it was also an amazing opportunity to network with hairstylists like me and reconnect with some of my favorite people!
From the moment I arrived in Fort Smith, Terra and the Harper Ellis team made me feel right at home. I got a tour of Harper Ellis Headquarters and learned all about how they operate behind the scenes. I have to say, I loved seeing all the beautiful hand-tied hair extensions that I order for my clients being packaged and shipped all over the world! It’s so fun to see how they organize all of the colors and lengths — there are so many to choose from! Plus, this is where they ship all of the Xo Britt clip-in hair extensions and ponytails!
Honestly, these people are my family. I’m blessed beyond measure to have met Terra and create the friendship we’ve formed over the years. She is such an inspiration and encourages me more than I can say. Any time I’m doubting my dreams or feeling like an idea I have is too big or too wild to work, Terra tells me it CAN! I know in my heart that this is just the beginning of even more awesome projects and collaborations with Harper Ellis. Plus, I haven’t laughed that hard in so long. I should be walking away with a six pack, but the champagne and yummy food they fed us ended that dream! haha
After this weekend, I totally understand why they call it “Masterclass.” Harper Ellis invests in us and goes above and beyond to deliver the best education out there. The entire Masterclass experience is thoughtful and polished from start to finish. I’ve never worked with a brand that cares so deeply for their stylists. They TRULY want us to succeed. It’s not about the dollar signs for them. Instead, it’s about creating the life that we dreamed of when we BECAME stylists. We all talked about how we are burnt out and feeling like our “cups our empty," but this class was exactly what we all needed to reconnect with our why and realize that we aren’t alone in this.
Like I wrote about this fall, it’s easy to get burnt out and start feeling like you’re never doing enough or achieving enough, but one of the most healing things is realizing that that’s normal, you’re not alone in feeling that way, and you can DO things to balance work and life while still making great money! But in order to learn how, you have to invest in yourself, your well-being, your business practices, AND your skills.
At Harper Ellis Masterclass, we covered all of the above!
First, we kicked off the weekend with a beautiful (and delicious!) welcome dinner. It was such a fun way to get to know all of the attendees, the Harper Ellis team, and the other speakers. It made that much more excited to wake up early on Saturday and get to work!
On Day One, we started with how to do a new install from start to finish. Now I know what you might be thinking: “Don’t you already KNOW how to do an extensions installation, Jessie??” Well of course I do, but sometimes, you need a little refresher so you can get down into the DETAILS that make a hand-tied hair extensions installation PERFECT!
We also covered how to work with an assistant. It was so cool to hear about how Terra trains her assistants so that they can eventually become badass stylists!
We also had breakout sessions that were BEYOND beneficial! During the breakouts, we got down to the nitty gritty of our numbers and pricing. I think all of us shared tears with Caroline (in a good way!) while also covering marketing and branding with her. Then we got to go deep into creating content with Em and Aubrey and cover all things ads with Casey! At the end of the day, I felt like I needed to wring out my brain — it was SO FULL!
On Day Two, we focused more on perfecting the method, cutting extensions for a seamless blend, and spent more time in breakouts. We also dug into our Instagram profiles and learned how to target our ideal clients and stay true to our brand.
Day Two was also a BIG content creation day! We made Reels, took lifestyle photos, got photos of each other working behind the chair, and more. We were all having so much fun — I couldn’t believe when it was time for a champagne toast and good-byes! I don’t think any of us wanted to leave!

Thank you to Caroline, Casey, Em, and Aubrey for pouring into us, and to the Harper Ellis Stylists for being right there with us to help! And of course, all the love to my fellow attendees. You all are ROCKSTARS, and I’m so glad to know you.
