Why Custom Color is Key to Hair Extensions

One of the questions I get most about hair extensions is, “How well will they blend in with my own hair?” No one wants hair extensions that LOOK like extensions! That’s why it’s so important to customize the color of your hair extensions! It takes a little extra time and effort, but it’s so, so worth it!

Here’s an example: if you’re naturally brunette but color your own hair buttery blonde and want to add blonde extensions, you don’t want to just throw in a few rows of fully blonde wefts. Those roots would stand out so much! Plus, it would be even more noticeable if you wear your hair up in a pony tail or fun up-do.

Instead, you want a stylist who takes the time to color the roots of the extensions to match your own roots. That way, your hair looks natural, grows out beautifully, and can be worn in almost any style!

Remember, you’re investing in hand-tied hair extensions because you want the most natural look. Hand-tied wefts are sewn by hand instead of made by machines, which makes the weft more narrow and able to lay flat just like your real hair. Customizing the root color is the final step in creating the gorgeous natural look you’re after!

Your new extensions do require a little color TLC, just like your real hair! Over time, the color can fade at the base of your hair extensions, so it’s best to freshen up every appointment or so.

How often you need to touch up your color? That depends on your hair color, the type of color your stylist uses, and so much more! Personally, I treat the hair extensions with either a gloss or toner at every maintenance appointment. This adds so much life back into them so they look as good as new!

Toners and glosses are included in my maintenance costs, but if we need to do a little low lighting or refreshing of the root color, there can be additional costs.
